General Editor, NIDA graduate John Senczuk, is a theatre polymath: his CV boasts over three hundred productions, nationally and internationally, as designer, director, dramaturg and playwright.
He appointed the Griffin Theatre Company’s first Artistic Director when Board Chair in 1986; he served as Associate Artistic Director of Wollongong’s Theatre South for a decade from1994; and was resident designer and dramaturg at Sydney Theatre Company, collaborating with Wayne Harrison during his tenure as Artistic Director (1990-1999).
Concurrently, John’s academic career spanned eighteen years at the Faculty of Creative Arts and the Department of English, University of Wollongong, where he created and taught causes in Scenography, Dramaturgy, Theatre and Performance Studies, and Australian Drama. He began a ten year association with Toi Whakaari, New Zealand Drama School in 2004, teaching in similar disciplines, but also acted as the School’s Academic Monitor (on behalf of the New Zealand Qualifications Authority). John also spent three years as Program Director(Production, Design and Arts Management) and Head of Design at WAAPA.
He now divides his time as a researcher (Australian theatre history and scenography),a writer of non-fiction; publisher and editor; and dramaturg (including administering the service provider Dramaturgy Australia.
